Scottish New Route and Snow in the Lakes.

Back from Scotland this afternoon after a wild day on the Ben yesterday. Again climbing with Andy Turner we made the first ascent of a route we have called Storm Trooper. It climbs the wall to the right of Darth Vader overlooking the start of Archangel.
As is becoming a bit of a theme Rob Jarvis was once again first to get the scoop and a report can be seen on his website, There is a lot of new snow on the Ben and it will take a couple of days to calm down. We got caught in a small avalanche whilst descending No 3 gully after the route.
A wet walk in Glen Coe on Sunday and a trip to the ice factor to set some dry tool problems completed the trip North.

I have just been in to Ambleside this evening and whilst I was there it has put about 5cm of snow on the road. It is forecast to warm up and the freezing level go above the summits briefly on the back on the snow early tomorrow before cooling down again. If the forecast is correct there will be climbing to be had in the Lakes over the next few days. We need to see what the morning brings.
